It was great to see that our Washday Blues book has been included in the Reminiscence Boxes that the Black Country Living Museum launched today. The book contains my Moms poems and the photos were taken at the museum a while ago. The boxes will be loaned out to care homes and organisations that work with people with dementia.
21 September is World Alzheimer’s day. Globally, dementia is one of the biggest challenges we face, with nearly 50 million people living with dementia worldwide. To tackle this global dementia challenge we need to work together, and to collaborate and share best practice with one another.
What can I do during World Alzheimer’s Month?
This World Alzheimer’s Month, we are encouraging everyone to learn more about dementia. We have fact sheets and booklets about dementia available to read online, download or order to your door.
You can also download a publications catalogue (PDF) for full details of all our print publications, accessible resources and practical tools. https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/world-alzheimers-month

We often wish we had learned more about our families past and recorded these precious memories for our future families to read and learn about. Documenting our life stories is something that we all must do and the earlier we start to do this the better. That way we will have our memories recorded before they fade. For people with dementia, it is best to do this as soon as possible and will make an enjoyable activity to do together.
The ‘This Is My Life’ memory and story book is ideal for documenting life stories from childhood memories to present day and future wishes. The activity of completing the book can be an enjoyable experience whilst the end result can be used to start meaningful conversations with the individual.
We will have lots of nostalgic gifts which will make great Christmas presents. Also free activities for people with dementia! If you know someone who has dementia who would benefit from a free activity then come and say hello.
