This beautiful rag rug was made by Kath who comes to the Wednesday Rag Rugging Workshop ot our Mindful Gifts CIC Shop in Darlaston. Kath didn’t know how to make bodged or peg rugs as you may know them. However, like most people who come to our class, she picked it up quickly and this rug is just one of many she has made. You wouldn’t believe this was made out of old clothes bodged into a hessian sack! Rag rugging is an old tradition when people hadn’t got carpets on the floor and used to make these rugs , mainly at Christmas so they had got something warm and attractive to put down. On some occasions they were put on the bed first and the older one off the bed was used as a carpet.

Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat Please put a penny in the old man’s hat If you haven’t got a penny, a ha’penny will do If you haven’t got a ha’penny, then God bless you! The words of Christmas is coming reflects the Christmas festival of celebration of being a time of plenty but that charity should be given to the less fortunate according to the giver’s means! Lets Think of others less fortunate this Christmas!

It was great to see that our Washday Blues book has been included in the Reminiscence Boxes that the Black Country Living Museum launched today. The book contains my Moms poems and the photos were taken at the museum a while ago. The boxes will be loaned out to care homes and organisations that work with people with dementia.
